Crosetto “The Italian ships remain in the Red Sea to avoid another block”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “It is necessary to avoid the strengthening of the tactics of chaos persecuted by the pasdarans”. For this reason, says Defense Minister Guido Crosetto in an interview with Repubblica, the Italian ships will continue to patrol the strait of Bab el Mandeb,
despite the attacks of the Houthi.

“Aspides was not born as a social trip: we agreed to be part of a mission that serves precisely to protect the marine traffics from which depends an important part of our economy. We went to the Red Sea when the Houthi threat was relevant, which then, for months, stopped. Now the Iranian attempt to add, in Hormuz, the Bab el Mandeb Strait to unleash the greatest chaos possible. Mostly our fleet and allied assets, which are there for that purpose, cannot leave at the moment,” he explains.

“We must avoid blocking Bab el Mandeb’s strait: exponentially they would increase the economic problems we face. The best way to do this is
remain there and continue dialogue with all the Gulf countries,” concludes Crosetto.
