Crans Montana, Tajani meets Parmelin. Replacing the Italian position

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani met today at the Farnesina the president of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin. The meeting focused on bilateral issues, and in particular on health refunds related to the tragedy of Crans-Montana, and on the main international dossiers.

Tajani expressed appreciation for the visit of Parmelin in Italy “and for the commitment, already manifested to the President of the Council, to ensure that the families of young Italians involved in the tragedy of Crans-Montana are not required any charges for hospital care received in Switzerland – read in a note from the Farnesina -. In this regard, the Minister reiterated the Italian position for which medical expenses should not be sustained either by families or by the Italian State. Italy formed a civil part in the process initiated in the Swiss Confederation and continues to follow with the utmost attention the evolution of the judicial process and the ascertainment of the responsibilities of the tragedy”.

Tajani and Parmelin focused on some international issues, “including Ukraine and the Middle East, on which Tajani expressed appreciation for the role traditionally played by Switzerland in fostering diplomatic solutions through its good offices – continues the note. Both expressed concern about the crisis in the Hormuz area and recent attacks on the United Arab Emirates. The situation in Lebanon has also been examined, highlighting the need for a ceasefire with Israel.
The owner of the Farnesina confirmed Italian support for the deepening of relations between Switzerland and the European Union, including in the context of migration and security and defence policy. It also discusses the importance of strengthening transatlantic relations also in the face of the challenges of duties and issues related to critical raw materials.”.

On bilateral issues, Tajani and Parmelin agreed “to continue working for the strengthening of economic relations: Switzerland is the fifth market for Italian exports. Over 1,000 Italian companies are active in Switzerland, with strong interest in energy, infrastructure and defence.” Tajani and Parmelin also agreed “to continue with the preparation of the Italian-Switzerland Dialogue on cross-border cooperation, with particular attention to the implementation of the agreement on the taxation of crossborder workers”.
