ROMA (ITALPRESS) – A strong impetus to adaptation policies, in particular in developing countries through sustainable infrastructure, innovative solutions for decarbonization starting from transport, the climate finance on which Italy is protagonist with a total allocation of 3.44 billion. These are the priorities indicated by the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto, during a press conference at the headquarters of the Association of Foreign Press in Rome, in conjunction with the opening of the COP30 works in Brazil. “Italy participates in the Climate Conference with ambition and confidence: 10 years after the Paris Agreement, steps are not allowed back,” said Minister Pichetto. “We bring in Brazil the awareness of a country that unites public and private in a concrete commitment to energy transition. Our contribution to climate finance is solid, as well as global problems through innovative technical solutions. We want to build – he added – effective partnerships and ensure that all countries, not only Europe, contribute to a right transition. Our compass remains multilateral negotiation, as a key to facing the present and future challenges,” Pichetto concluded.
Italy arrives at the COP30 in Belém as the protagonist of international climate finance, exceeding the goal set by the G20: the Italian contribution to climate finance has passed from 838 million in 2023 to 3,44 billion in 2024, of which 1,67 billion public resources and 1,77 billion private funds mobilized through public instruments. Among the main instruments are the Italian Climate Fund, also in the Mattei Plan for Africa, and direct co-involvement of Sace and Simest in projects dedicated to the global ecological transition. At COP30, Italy also focuses on innovative solutions for decarbonization, with particular attention to biofuels, in order to reach a zero-emission future in line with the Paris Agreements and the decisions of the Dubai COP28. Italy is proud and pleased to have worked side by side with the Brazilian Presidency at the launch, during the PreCOP, of the “Belem 4X Pledge on Sustainable Fuels” to quadriuplicate the global use of sustainable fuels by 2035 compared to the levels of 2024, following the IEA report on sustainable fuels.
The Italian initiative with UNEP and IEA 3DEN, aimed at awarding innovative solutions for the efficiency of energy systems with digital technology, was selected by UNFCC as best practices to be presented at the official COP 30 pavilion. Great attention is also devoted to the involvement of young generations, involved through the initiative “Youth4Climate” and the 150 projects funded to build a transition that is also cultural and participatory. The Italian presence at COP30 is based on a public-private partnership that sees the participation of some of the main national excellences, including Enel, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane and BF International, who contributed to the realization of the Italian Pavilion. The Pavilion will be divided into two complementary spaces dedicated to science, technology, communication and innovation. At the presentation conference, together with the minister Pichetto, the undersecretary Claudio Barbaro and the general manager for European, International Affairs and Sustainable Finance of MASE, Alessandro Guerri. For the Railway Group of the State participated the Ad and general manager of Trenitalia Gianpiero Strisciuglio, while for Enel the Italian director Nicola Lanzetta intervened.
