The appointment is for Saturday, June 6th at 11:00 am for bikers at the entrance of Central Park, East Side (Engineer’S Gate, Fifth Avenue and 90th Street), or at noon for those who just want to reach the runners at the end of the race and sit on the grass with known and unknown.
The event is the “Bicycled”, also wanted by Colavita and the Italian School and held with the wishes of the Consulate of Italy in NY. Colavita, the Molisana company present in the United States with a headquarters in New Jersey since 1979, puts on track its “Racing Team”, the group of cyclists who since 2020 competes both amateurly and competitively. It will be his cyclists in uniform to play the role of leader of the “Bicycleta 2026”, who has no sporting ambition, except to gather the pedals of the Italian community and their friends.
The pedals are divided into two groups: those who want to go slowly and those faster, and each will make a whole loop in the park (5 or 7 miles) to converge at noon behind the South-West of the Metropolitan Museum, with entrance to Fifth Avenue and 79th Street. That is also the place where you find those who choose to sit on a blanket and clunch something brought from home.
The gathering is at its second edition, but compared to the first of 2024 the picnic is added, courtesy of the more than 30 centigrade degrees scheduled for Saturday. It is, as in the intention of the United States Delegation and the Comites of NY, an occasion of celebration and assembly of Italianity, a moment to share among families.
Every occasion to stay among Italians and Italians is good; in this case it is to celebrate the National Day of Sport for Italians abroad (GNS-CIE). Established by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in 2003, on a proposal and management of the CONI, the Day takes place in Italy every year on the first Sunday of June, all over the national territory, coinciding with the Feast of the Republic, and in the same period also in the heart of the Italian communities scattered around the world, where the diplomacy of sport plays a primary role.
