ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “More than one hundred thousand people today, in this country, from this square they speak to everyone. The value of this day is a square that combines workers and workers, from Ilva to Electrolux, and all those who are fighting in this country for their rights. It is a square that unites young people, students, farmers and even truckers who are fighting, because we all have the same problem: a dear life that does not allow us to move forward. So this square, this beautiful day, tells us that it’s time to get the word back. Democracy defends it by practicing it, not giving up, never lowering its head and putting the person in the center, not the market, not profit”. Thus the secretary general of the Cgil, Maurizio Landini, from the procession of the event called by the union “La Via Maestra” in Rome.
“I believe that what comes from these days, from these weeks of mobilization is a very strong message, in particular that comes from young people, from new generations, who tell us something important: they no longer accept to stay on the margins, not to be considered, not to be listened because they want to be protagonists of their life and their future and the future is today,” he added.
“Democracy defends it by practicing it, not giving up, never lowering its head and putting the person in the center, not the market, not profit. The future is built by changing the present, changing the inequalities, changing the injustices, building a different country that really puts back the values of the Constitution to the centre,” said the leader of the Cgil. “We want salaries that make us live with dignity, a pension after a working life that allows us to live with dignity, a public health that functions, that guarantees health to all. Democracy defends it by practicing it, not giving up, never lowering its head and putting the person in the center, not the market, not profit. The future is today. The future is built by changing the present, changing inequalities, changing injustices.” Landini then asks: “Four years ago, when there was no government, and today, are we better or are we worse? Because all the rest are dances that are told, but the bales have short legs.”.
The leader of the Cgil explains the reasons for mobilization. “We want salaries that make us live with dignity, we want a pension after a working life that allows us to live with dignity, we want a public health that functions, which guarantees health to all. And again, “the right to knowledge, education is the basis for fighting inequalities”, while “without knowledge and without training you have no future”.
For Landini “those who are here today in this square, let’s say it, we are those who hold this country, who pay taxes, even for those who escape. And then we want to have recognized our rights.” Finally, Landini from the stage announces that “on November 20 the Cgil will proclaim the general strike in this country, because we make available to this democratic process, of change, that puts back to the center the work, the rights, the social justice. The strike is the most sympathetic instrument that exists. Because when you strike, you don’t just do it to defend your rights, but you do it to extend those rights to other people. It is the time to say something precise: no one will stop us, let us go forward with strength and solidarity”.
