ACI CASTELLO (CATANIA) (ITALPRESS) – “Certainly”. Thus Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Vatican, on the margin of the prayer vigil organized at Aci Castello on the occasion of the ninth centenary of the translation of the relics of Sant’Agata, answers the question whether the iron arm between Italy and Spain on the crisis of Ceuta risks to undermine Europe.
“There has never been a great consensus on the issue of migration and that is what the Holy See has always insisted on. On the migration phenomenon, with all its complexity, there must be a common approach. We hope that there will be, that the differences, the contrasts and there will be a common approach that will allow us to face this situation in a human way,” the Cardinal added.
Regarding conflicts in the Middle East, “the Church has always appealed to peace. Unfortunately, this appeal is not always followed. In fact many times it is not followed – it has emphasized Parolin -. But I believe that the Church must continue to insist on this issue. That then, in the end, finds echo in the hearts of men because men realize that this way of doing, of leading the world can only bring further conflicts, further pains and destruction.”
On the contrary, regarding the war in Ukraine, “we have tried, in so many ways, to begin with Pope Francis, to offer a mediation from the Holy See – the Cardinal added. Until now there has been no direct response. We continue our efforts. Now there will be the Secretary for Relations with States, Monsignor Gallagher, who will go to Moscow. We hope that some fruit will be collected and we can start paths of ceasefire and then, also, of negotiation”.
