Bankitalia, in 2026 GDP +0.6% and strengthening in the two-year period 2027-2028

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “In the third quarter Italy’s GDP was slightly increased, due to the strong rise in exports and the expansion of investments, which benefited from tax incentives and other measures connected with the Pnrr. The consumption of households has grown to a limited extent, with expectations still unfavourable on the evolution of the international economic framework. On the basis of our evaluations, in the fourth quarter economic activity continued to expand moderately, supported by the service sector, especially those for enterprises, and a recovery in industry.” Thus the Bank of Italy in the Economic Bulletin underlines that “the prospects for manufacturing remain uncertain, even for the intensification of Chinese competition in different sectors. In our projections elaborated in December, a growth of 0.6% in 2026 is expected, which would strengthen in the two years 2027-2028”.

“In the fourth quarter inflation was low in comparison with the euro area, for the more moderate growth in service prices and for the more pronounced decline in energy prices. The net inflation of the most volatile components fell below 2% – explains the Bank of Italy –. The pressure at the origin continues to diminish. According to our projections elaborated in December, consumption inflation will fall to 1.4% in 2026, from 1.7% last year; It will gradually rise in the next two years, bringing about values close to 2% in the average of 2028, reflecting the temporary increase in the energy component due to the introduction of the European ETS2 legislation.
