Automotive, Urso “From Plan Italia Stellantis first results, now move the EU”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The perspectives of the car sector in Italy, the Stellantis Italian Plan, the measures of industrial policy in the field from here to the next years and the role of our country in the battle in Europe for the reform of EU rules on the sector, from the revision of the CO2 regulation to the implementation of the Industrial Accelerator Act. These are the themes at the centre of the meeting held at Mimit between the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, and the representatives of the Regions in which the main productive areas of the supply chain are based.

The minister retraced the government’s commitment to support the sector, which led from the beginning of the legislature to the activation of a permanent automotive table with institutions, trade unions and enterprises, represented by Anfia, to which the table dedicated to Stellantis, concluded in December 2024 with the definition of the Italian Plan which, Urso pointed out, “has led to an industrial plan more consistent with the national interests, founded on the commitment not to close.

“A path – he added – that allowed in 2025 the launch of new models and 7 billion purchases in the Italian components, favoring a significant turn of trend already from the end of last year, strengthened in the first months of 2026′′′. The minister then retraced Italy’s commitment to Europe, a pioneer in the revision of the policies for the automotives since the non-paper of October 2024, which helped to anticipate the revision of the regulation on CO2 emissions and the postponement of the so-called ‘supermultes’ that would put the sector to a harsh test.

A commitment that continues now in comparison with the European Commission, whose proposal to review the CO2 package of 16 December, remarked Urso, “it is in the right direction, but still remains insufficient. 2026 will have to be the year of reforms and change. The Commission’s courageous and pragmatic decisions are immediately needed to defend and relaunch European car production: full technological neutrality, concrete support for the supply chain and immediate acceleration of the Industrial Accelerator Act. We can no longer afford further renewals.”.

The minister therefore announced the convocation of a new automotive table before the summer break, to take stock of the implementation of the Italian Plan by Stellantis and define, together with the Regions, any further initiatives in support of the transition and development of the sector. In the course of the meeting, industrial policy measures have been illustrated for the next few years, starting from the new Dpcm that will programme up to 2030 approximately 1.6 billion of the automotive fund, giving 75% of the resources to support the offer, with focus on innovation, productive investments and supply chain. On these measures the minister has opened a comparison with the Regions to define its implementation on the territories, enhancing synergies on investments, supply chains and skills.
