The Ambassador of Italy in the United States, Marco Peronaci, announced yesterday evening during a reception in Villa Firenze, in Washington, the names of the winners of this year’s Urbino Prize, which enjoys the patronage of the Senate of the Republic. Peter Baker, a leading New York Times signature, and Susan Glasser, among the most authoritative New Yorker’s voices, received the important award, which reached its twentieth edition.
“Peter Baker and Susan Glasser are journalists of the highest level that well represent the excellence of American journalism,” commented Ambassador Peronaci. “The Urbino Prize plays an irreplaceable role in creating and feeding new connections between Italy and the United States: the strong support of Italian institutions, at all levels, demonstrates the quality of the path made here and the great potential for the future,” he added.
Giovanni Lani, journalist, President and co-founder of the Urbino Prize, said: “The Urbino Award was born 20 years ago. This is a very important anniversary for us and we thought to distinguish it a bit from other editions. We found the rare opportunity to have two top-level professionals who also share daily life ever, Peter Baker and his wife Susan B. During the event, Baker was honored to receive this award together with his wife in Washington, waiting to be able to go to Urbino for the traditional ceremony at Palazzo Ducale. Glasser spoke about the main challenges the information world faces today during a conversation with Steve Clemons, winner of the Urbino Prize in 2025.
Peter Baker is the chief correspondent from the White House for the New York Times, where he landed in 2008 after twenty years at the Washington Post. His journalistic career has seen him tell closely about the Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump and Biden administrations, to which he added a period as a correspondent from Moscow for the Post. Susan Glasser, before arriving at New Yorker, worked for the Washington Post as a correspondent and editor, for Politico as head of the team that followed the 2016 elections and for Foreign Policy, where he held the role of director. Together with her husband, she wrote numerous books of great success on American politics and history.
