Ambassador Marrapodi visits the 11 September Memorial

On the occasion of the week dedicated to contrasting terrorism to the UN, on July 1, the Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations in New York, Giorgio Marrapodi, visited the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero.

“The memory of the ferocious attack on the Twin Towers leads us to work with greater international and multilateral vigor to protect that common frame of values that responds to the principles of freedom and peaceful coexistence among peoples,” said the Ambassador during the ceremony of floral deposition in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks, of which this year marks the 25th anniversary.

Marrapodi underlined the commitment of the Italian Government to promote international cooperation for counter-terrorism and initiatives promoted by Italy during the work at the Palazzo di Vetro, aimed at promoting international strategies for the fight against terrorism and transnational crime.

One of the main events promoted by Italy during the week, and in which the Vice President of the Committee of MPs of the OSCE On. Emanuele Loperfido spoke, he faced the impact of artificial intelligence and technological sovereignty on strategies of contrast to terrorism, analyzing the role of parliaments in adapting and applying existing regulatory frameworks to the new challenges posed by technological innovation.

The Italian Delegation to the Onusian Week for Contrast to Terrorism includes 4 members of the Antiterrorism Strategic Analysis Committee (CASA) of the Ministry of the Interior, executives of the State Police and senior officers of the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza, assisted by the staff of the Italian Representation at the United Nations.
