Agro-food trade of the European Union, in 2025 export record to 238,4 billion euros

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The latest report on agri-food trade in the European Union, published today by the Commission, shows that EU agri-food exports reached a new record in 2025, despite global economic challenges. In 2025 EU agri-food exports totalled EUR 238.4 billion, an increase of 1% compared to 2024 (€22.3 billion). The United Kingdom has remained the main destination of EU agri-food exports, representing 23% of total (55.6 billion euros).

Among other major developments, exports increased significantly towards Switzerland (+1.2 billion euros, +7%) and Turkey (+1.1 billion euros, +16%). Preparations based on cereals, dairy products and wine continued to train EU exports, while cocoa, coffee and chocolate recorded the greatest increases in value, largely due to the increase in prices.

EU agri-food imports rose to 188.6 billion euros, with an increase of 9% compared to 2024 (+15.3 billion euros). The United Kingdom, Brazil and the United States have remained the main suppliers, with cocoa, coffee, fruit and nuts that have driven the growth of imports due to the increase in world prices.

In 2025 the EU maintained a total trade surplus in the agri-food sector of EUR 49.9 billion. This is a lower amount of EUR 13.3 billion compared to the overall surplus of 2024, mainly due to the increase in import prices of key raw materials such as coffee, cocoa, fruit and nuts.

The EU remains the world’s first exporter of agri-food products and was also the world’s first importer in 2025. In 2025 agri-food trade accounted for 9% of EU total exports, 7.5% of EU total imports and 37% of EU overall trade surplus.
