Tonight the time changes in New York, and the six hours of difference with Italy are back

It lasted only a week, but for a few days New York and Italy were a little closer. At least looking at the clock. From Sunday, October 25, in fact, the difference in time zone between the two countries had fallen from the usual six hours to five, because in Italy the solar time had already returned, while in the United States no.

On the night between Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November will also move the hands to New York. At 2:00 a.m., the clocks will return to 1:00 a.m., giving an extra hour of sleep. A small advantage for those who have spent the Halloween night out of the house, and maybe will do a little later than expected.

With the return of the solar hour, New York will be six hours behind Italy: when in Manhattan it will be 9 am, in Rome will already be 15 pm. Those with friends, relatives or colleagues on the other side of the Atlantic will then have to update their calculations again, after having just become accustomed to the difference of five hours.

The misalignment depends on the different calendars adopted on the two shores of the Atlantic. In Europe the legal hour ends on the last Sunday of October, while in the United States the change takes place on the first Sunday of November. The same situation is repeated in spring, when Americans anticipate hands before Europeans.

The solar time will remain in force in New York until 14 March 2027, when the legal one returns. Meanwhile, from Sunday, the sun will rise and last about an hour before the previous days.

As for phones, computers and other devices with the automatic updating of the time, nothing will be done. For analogue watches, instead, it will have to intervene manually. And for those with relatives in Italy, just return to the old habit: add six hours before calling.
