Called between Leo XIV and Putin, the Pope calls for a truce for the Ukrainian city of Oleshky

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Pope Leo XIV today had a telephone interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In the course of the conversation, the Pontiff expressed “live concern” for the serious humanitarian situation in Oleshky, in the Ukrainian region of Kherson, asking for a truce to allow the arrival of food and health aid and the voluntary and safe evacuation of the civilian population. The Holy See reports it, pointing out that the Pope finally reiterated the Vatican’s commitment to dialogue and peace.

“This morning the Pope performed blood tests and chest X-rays, which confirmed the constant improvement of general conditions. Respiratory physiotherapy sessions continued. Post-operative recovery allows you to carry out normal daily activities in complete autonomy.” This is what we read in the medical bulletin from the Vatican.

The press room of the Holy See has spread two photographs depicting Pope Leo XIV while he presides over a Eucharistic celebration in a room used by the Gemelli Polyclinic together with doctors, nurses, inservants and gendarmes. The Pontiff, in fact, this morning at 12 a.m. celebrated the Mass, then distributing himself Communion. In the homily the Pope thanked the staff all, doctors, nurses, inservants, for the work that he does every day taking care of the sick and their fragility and, in particular, for what they did and do for him.
