While consumer expectations continue to evolve and become increasingly important to ensure the safety and diversification of supply chains, the food and beverage industry is constantly seeking concrete solutions. In this strategic context, SIAL Canada will hold its 24th edition from 27 to 29 April 2027 at the Energy Centre in Toronto. The event will bring together the entire food chain and drinks to promote business relations, present the main innovations and offer businesses unique and high value business opportunities.
In response to the need to diversify markets, SIAL Canada is proud to announce Italy as a country of honour for 2027. Thanks to the strong impetus to trade generated by the global economic and trade agreement between Canada and the European Union (ECTA), Canada is a strategic gateway to North America for the European Union. In this context, Italy is established as an important partner and Canada’s first European supplier of food and agri-food products. This award will offer buyers privileged access to an area of excellence, while at the same time providing Italian companies with a leading platform to increase their visibility on the Canadian market.
“Italy is a fundamental partner for Canada in the agri-food sector. Beyond business relationships, our two countries share a strong commitment to food excellence and a deep appreciation for the skills and craftsmanship of those who produce high quality foods. By choosing Italy as a country of honor for 2027, SIAL Canada contributes to bringing the enterprises of the two countries closer and creating new opportunities for growth with Italy and the entire European market”.
L’onorevole Heath MacDonald, Ministro dell’Agricoltura e dell’Agroalimentare
The collaboration between SIAL Canada and Italy is natural, especially in the light of the deep rooting of Italian culture in the metropolitan area of Toronto. 59% of Canadians of Italian origin live in Ontario, of which 445.000 in the metropolitan area of Toronto.
Italy is also recognized worldwide for the authenticity, traceability, tradition and innovative spirit of its food industry: qualities that are particularly relevant in the current context and further enhanced by the inscription of Italian cuisine in the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list. The country is a reference point for culinary diversity, regional specialties and local products to new food trends, which visitors will have the opportunity to discover at the fair.
«The Italian agri-food sector is going through a very positive growth phase in Canada and the designation of Italy as “Honour country” to SIAL Canada 2027 arrives at a particularly favorable time for our companies. SIAL Canada is the main fair of the country for the agri-food sector and will represent a fundamental opportunity to consolidate the Italian presence on the market”.
Carlo Angelo Bocchi, Direttore degli uffici dell’Agenzia ICE in Canada
“The appointment of Italy to “Paese d’onore” of SIAL Canada 2027 is for us reason of great satisfaction: it represents a further recognition of the work we carry on for years to strengthen the presence of Italian agri-food products, the “Made in Italy”, in North America. SIAL Canada is a fundamental platform for this market and we are proud to accompany for many years Italian companies in their path of growth and development in Canada”.
Donato Cinelli, Presidente di Universal Marketing e agente esclusivo del network SIAL in Italia
Italy will play a leading role throughout the SIAL Canada 2027 programme, also through the award of special prizes: the “Best Italian Product” medal in the SIAL Innovation competition and the “Best Italian Cheese” award at the International Cheese Competition. The latter is open to producers and distributors from all over the world, although they do not participate in the fair as exhibitors.
True to its role as an anticipator of trends, SIAL Canada will also present the new Superfood pavilion. Designed to respond directly to the evolution of consumer needs, this space will be dedicated to functional foods, including products rich in proteins, fibers and nutrients, reflecting market changes.
In addition to consumer trends, the 2027 edition will also pay attention to the challenges of industry through the food processing and production sector. The initiative is fully in line with the Canadian federal strategy and meets the need for producers to strengthen supply chains through modernization, automation and increased productivity.
