Schillaci “With the plan of waiting lists we have focused on appropriateness and transparency”

FIRENZE (ITALPRESS) – “Our Ssn is founded on the principles of universality, equality and equity. Principles, however, must be translated into the concrete possibility of receiving the necessary assistance, regardless of the economic conditions and the place where one lives.” Thus the Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, in a video message sent to the Festival dell’Economia Civile, in operation in Florence.

“We have progressively increased the resources for health. The national health fund has passed from almost 126 billion to almost 143. We also intervened on waiting lists with new rules, a national system that allows monitoring and today also to know better the times of performance, to identify the most critical situations. With the new National Plan of waiting lists we have also focused on the appropriateness, transparency and protection paths for citizens. Investing in prevention, territorial assistance and appropriateness means better use of available resources, helping to reduce inequalities in access to services,” he added.

“In these 4 years we have made important steps, putting more resources available to health, intervening on some structural aspects of the system,” the minister explained. “From waiting lists to territorial assistance, from personnel to prevention, however, they remain complex challenges, population aging, non-self-sufficiency, the shortage of some professional figures, territorial differences, the need to ensure timely and appropriate access to care. They are challenges that require resources, but also programming skills and increasingly effective use of those available. This is where the reflection on civil economy meets that on health. A universal health system is a social cohesion factor. It protects people in times of greater fragility, reduces inequalities and contributes to the holding of communities,” he concluded.
