ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, is today on an official visit to the Czech Republic, at the invitation of Prime Minister Andrej Babis, accompanied by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti. The visit, explains Italian sources, is part of the progressive strengthening of relations between Italy and the Czech Republic, characterized by an increasing convergence on the main European dossiers and by significant prospects for further development of bilateral cooperation. At the heart of the mission will be the adoption of the Italian-Czech Republic Action Plan 2026-2030, which defines the framework of collaboration for the coming years and identifies some of the main areas in which the two Nations intend to further deepen the partnership: from political and economic cooperation to defence and security, from infrastructure to research and innovation, to the themes of migration and competitiveness. This will lead to the launch of the Year of Culture Italy-Czech Republic 2027-2028, with a programme of initiatives aimed at enhancing the deep cultural ties and relations between the two peoples. Particular attention will be paid to economic and industrial cooperation, in the light of the important complementarities between the two production systems and the presence of many Italian companies in the Czech Republic.
Energy, advanced technologies, defence and infrastructure are some of the areas where there are opportunities to develop long-term investments and partnerships. In this context, the strengthening of infrastructure and transport links between the Mediterranean and Central Europe can also offer new prospects of collaboration. The visit, underline Italian sources, will also be an opportunity for a comparison of the main priorities of the European agenda, also in view of the European Council in October, starting from competitiveness and the need to strengthen Europe’s ability to produce, invest and compete on international markets. The prospects for negotiations on the future Multiannual Financial Framework will also be addressed, with particular attention to cohesion policy and the common agricultural policy, also taking into account that Italy and the Czech Republic both participate in the “Friends of Cohesion”. A further theme will be the management of migration flows, on which Rome and Prague have developed a strong convergence in recent years.
