MILANO (ITALPRESS) – A meeting organized by AIL Milano Monza Brianza will be held on Friday, October 2 at the Istituto dei Ciechi in Milan in Via Vivaio 7 for the first 50 years of activity of the Association. A moment of reflection with some of the protagonists of the past and of the present that will see the presence of experts in the research and care of onco-hematological diseases and the testimony of patients and volunteers. “50 years next to the patients”, is the title of the meeting that will take place on 2 October but also the commitment that AIL Milano Monza Brianza has assumed towards the oncoematologic and their caregiver in 1976, the year of its constitution, and that always has “Being next to the sick means first of all listening: express and inexpressed needs, fears, hopes. And so, in 50 years, we have worked to give concrete and timely answers to patients suffering from a blood tumor that cannot wait,” says Federica Fiorani, President of AIL Milano Monza Brianza. Thanks to the listening and the desire to assist in the different aspects of care the sick and the caregiver, the services of “AIL Accoglie” were born that include: the free reception in the Case AIL (today the structures are 21 and, over time, have offered over 240.000 overnight stays), the service accompanying care – with 23,300 trips made from 2013 – and the psychological support in the AIL Ambulators active at the National Institute of Sanmori “We have always been close to places of care, collaborating with the hospitals of the city, the departments of Hematology, researchers, doctors, nurses and socio-sanitary staff, supporting their work with all possible resources,” continues Fiorani. For this reason, all the voices that give meaning to the commitment of AIL Milano Monza Brianza towards the sick and the hematological community will be present at the meeting, structured in three sessions. After the opening and institutional greetings, the first session will briefly retrace the history of the Association, focusing on the role of psychological support in oncohematology, on the value of partnerships with profit realities in order to continue to guarantee patients free services and on the sense and role of volunteering. The second session, the heart of the meeting, will offer an integrated view of the current state of clinical research in onco-ethology, with particular reference to the results obtained also thanks to the support of the Association. Here there will be experts such as Professor Francesco Onida (Fabenefratelli Hospital), Professor Fabio Ciceri (San Raffaele Hospital), Dr. Barbara Mora (Polyclinic Major Hospital), Dr. Martina Pennisi and Dr. Federico Stella (National Institute of Tumors). In conclusion the interventions of a patient and caregiver that will bring to the attention their views. In the third session he will look at the future of research – with Professor Paolo Corradini (National Institute of Tumors), Professor Francesco Onida (Fabenefratelli Hospital), Dr. Camilla Luchesini (Spanish Courses ASST North Milan) and Dr. Sara Alfieri ( Clinical Psychology, National Institute Tumori) with the story of the challenges that await the Association in the coming years. At the end of the day, after the confrontation between experts and participants, they will celebrate 50 years with a final toast together with all present.
