MILAN (ITALPRESS) – The cda of Pirelli & C. has approved by majority – with the vote against advisers Zhang Haitao, Xi Xiaohong and Wang Kun – an investment plan in the United States for approximately 1 billion euros (about 1.2 billion dollars), aimed at the extension of the Rome plant in Georgia, already dedicated to technologically advanced solutions for the US market. The investment plan will support the growth of Pirelli in the US high calue and further consolidates the long-term commitment in the country, where Pirelli has been present in the state of Georgia since 2002. The expansion plan will be distributed over a multi-year span from 2027 and will increase production capacity in the factory in Rome, including Cyber Tyre technology. Thanks to this plan, the plant in Georgia will produce about 6 million car tires in 2033 and will occupy about 1,000 new employees.
The expansion of the Rome plant, which will become an industrial hub with cutting-edge technology, will take place in two stages. The first will see a gradual increase in robotic production and based on the latest evolution of the MIRS (Modular Integrated Robotized System) – Pirelli’s proprietary technology – with a progressive development of production capacity from 2028 and that will come to regime with 3 million pieces, through autonomous robotic modular systems that allow the production of high-tech High Value tyres. In addition, a completely automated traditional plant will be created and developed with the most advanced production processes, aimed at premium products, able to reach a capacity of 3 million more pieces. The project will have no impact on targets 2026 and it is expected that the capex/return ratio in 2027-2033 will remain substantially in continuity with previous periods, preserving the group cash generation.
