ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Mattarella’s “was a beautiful speech. With the usual wisdom Mattarella expressed himself in favor of a school focused on respect, in line with the constitutional values, that knows how to counter the ghetto classes”. Thus the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara, in an interview with Corriere della Sera on the measure announced by the government on the roof of foreigners in class.
“We are working on the latest details but will have as a central element the knowledge of Italian and there will be objective criteria to determine who applies. The limits will not apply to students who attended the school of childhood and enter the first elementary or to those who attended positively some years of school, because they may think they have acquired some knowledge of Italian. The rules also apply to students with a European passport.
“The classes with more than 20 percent of new-arrived foreign students who do not know our language are just under one thousand, mostly in elementary school. For these we have trained and hired specialized teachers. On the other hand, 34 thousand are those with at least 30% of foreign students, but as I said the norm will concern only those who do not properly know our language”, which are about a third.
“The phenomenon of the concentration of migrants in some geographical areas and in some districts of the great cities is uneven. Growing in the North and in Rome, less important in the regions of the South”, Valditara recalls. Why the limit, already foreseen by Gelmini but unenforced, should now work? “Ours is a law and not a circular and will be cogent. We play a coordinating role at the local school offices that will move excess students to other proximity school, as already happens today for Italian students in overstatement. Inertia will no longer be possible. We also expect a precise organizational model,” he explains.
“We are not advising, but building a system designed to work? ?”, he points out. “The phenomenon of white flight, literally the escape of whites, worries me a lot: there is worldwide but it also concerns Italy. If we reduce to balanced percentages the presence of students who do not speak our language, the other students may return. For this reason I find without construct the polemics of the left: here is the risk of slipping towards the Alabama of the 1950s, with the ghetto schools, those of the segregation”. Finally, also for parents “we are studying effective tools. If you speak Arabic at home, forget what you did at school. International studies tell us that it is important that parents know the language and follow what their children do at school.”.
The ban on burqa and niqab at school “is a matter of civilization, I am sorry for those who make polemics, but the burqa is the symbol of the violent patriarchal mentality that considers the woman a non-person and that we as League have always warned. Our values say that the freedom of women is not negotiable.” How can these girls disappear or be sent back to their country? “Who does not send them to school, thanks to the Caivano decree, risks up to two years of jail. And magistrates can remove parental power”
