ROMA (ITALPRESS) – From 1 January to 8 September 2026 the ISS’s national surveillance system has 265 confirmed Dengue cases: 24 of these are autochthonous while all other cases are associated with foreign travel (56% with Maldives exposure site), no death. 25 confirmed cases of Chikungunya have also been reported: 1 of these cases have been identified as autochthonous while all others are associated with foreign travel (42% with Seychelles exposure site), no death, and 3 cases of Zika virus, all associated with foreign travel, no death. This is the weekly update of the dashboard. In particular with regard to the Dengue virus 2 episodes of local transmission have been identified: a focolare composed of 20 confirmed cases of infection, all symptomatic, with exposure in a Municipality of the Province of Livorno (Tuscany). Further epidemiological investigations and contravention activities are currently underway; another outbreak is composed of 4 confirmed cases of infection, all symptomatic, with exposure in some Municipalities of the Province of Lecce (Apulia). In the same period 12 cases of Usutu virus were reported (7 Lombardy, 1 Emilia-Romagna, 1 Marche, 1 Lazio, 1 Piemonte, 1 Veneto).
As for the West Nile virus, the seventh weekly bulletin records 594 confirmed cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) infection in man (521 in the previous report), of which 306 manifested themselves in the neuroinvasive form (of which 5 cases imported: 1 Maldives, 1 France, 1 Belgium, 1 Greece and 1 Netherlands), 81 asymptomatic cases identified in blood donors, 202 cases imported fever (1 41 deaths were notified between confirmed cases (one in an imported case). Literality, calculated on autochthonous neuro-invasive forms, is at 13.3% (in the same period of 2025, 15.0%). In the same period 12 cases of Usutu virus were reported (7 Lombardy, 1 Emilia-Romagna, 1 Marche, 1 Lazio, 1 Piemonte, 1 Veneto). The Provinces with proven circulation of the WNV belonging to 19 Regions are up to 79. (Last bulletin were 75 provinces in 19 regions). Last year in the same period were 582 cases reported with 39 deaths.
