ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The G7 of Parliaments opens in Paris. The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana, was welcomed today by the President of the French National Assembly Yael Braun-Pivet and participated in other bilateral meetings with the Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, Francis Scarpaleggia, and the President of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk. At the heart of the meetings: the analysis of the political situation in Europe, national and international challenges, cooperation projects in existence between their respective countries, the contribution of Parliaments to diplomacy and the process of building peace.
To all interlocutors, President Fontana gave appointment in Rome for the next Conference of Presidents of Parliament of the Council of Europe, scheduled from 14 to 16 October this year in Montecitorio. In the morning Fontana will take part in the first session of the work, on the theme: “For a living democracy: Parliament’s openness, confidence and citizen participation.” In the afternoon he will participate in the second session, focusing on the role of parliaments in foreign and defence policy in a context of global crisis.
