“Certainly – he writes – European intervention would be useful and appropriate, but meanwhile there are no alibis not to intervene immediately at national level. We know that the forces of the majority on this are divided, it is up to President Meloni to sum up in the country’s interest. The government passes from words to facts and rates immediately the extra profits to finance the extraordinary interventions necessary to give back breath to Italy. The only temporary cut of excise duties is no longer sufficient: a broader and more articulated action plan is needed. On the one hand it is necessary to brake the price race to the pumps, also checking the feasibility of a roof to the margin of refining”.
On the other hand “it is urgent to support the purchasing power of families, enhancing and expanding the social bonus light and gas, restoring the transport bonus (which had helped almost 3 million citizens with subscriptions to public transport), providing a fuel contribution modulated on the ISEE. As well as helping those productive sectors that suffer more from the crisis, starting from agriculture and road haulage”.
For Schlein “it is necessary to free the country from dependence on fossil sources, which makes it the most exposed to energy shocks. To this must serve the flexibility obtained at European level, to recover the enormous delay of the government that in these 4 years has done nothing to speed up and simplify the production of renewables, to stimulate the decarbonization of industrial processes, the electrification of consumption and energy efficiency”.
