Caldo, took place the third meeting of the Cabin of direction of the Ministry: analyzed the data of the period 25 May-30 June

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Today, at the Ministry of Health, a new meeting of the Interinstitutional Directing Cabin was held as part of the National Operational Plan on the effects of the heat. During the meeting, “there were analysed, with the support of the Department of Epidemiology of the Regional Health Service of Lazio (DEP), data relating to the period 25 May-30 June: both globally and European on June 2026 was the second hottest ever.” That’s what you read in a note from the Ministry.

The heat alert systems have provided level 2 and 3 risk conditions in Italy (orange and red bottles) from 18 June to the end of the month, with an average of 10 days to the North, 10 days to the Centre and 4 days to the South. It is reported the case of the city of Turin where the days with alert levels 2 and 3 in the reference period were 23: 63% of the total.

The analysis of the surveillance data of the daily mortality over 65 showed, for the period 25 May-30 June, the total of the cities considered, that the average mortality excess was contained (3%), also in relation to what is observed in other European countries.

In the second and most intense heat wave (18-30 June) the data presented confirmed, as previously communicated, a statistically significant excess of mortality in the population over 65 in Turin.

The analysis illustrated in the course of the Cabin directed by the DEP Lazio has evidenced, then, an additional element: the excess of mortality recorded in Italy during the reference period is limited to the over 85, the so-called great elders. The access data in the ER did not show significant variations, if there were no slight increase in Venice, Milan, Palermo.

The 1500, the number of public utilities of the Ministry, has already received over a thousand calls from users, also considered today’s day. The peak of the calls was recorded at the heat waves.

To contact more the Ministry are the over 65, in particular from Lazio, Lombardy and Piedmont. First-level calls mainly concern hot bubbles and hot effects on health. On the second level, calls mainly concern psychosocial problems and cardiovascular disorders.
