PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – An effective and timely tool to address dental emergencies in a period in which studies are largely closed for summer holidays: it is called Dentists of August and it is the initiative launched for the next month by the Italian Association of Dedontoiatri (Aio) Palermo, with the aim of offering to citizens and tourists a concrete reference and proximity in case of emergency care. The project, illustrated this morning in the headquarters of the Order of Doctors of Palermo at Villa Magnisi, was realized in partnership with the Order of Pharmacists of Palermo and Federalberghi Palermo.
Giuseppe Gariffo, president of Aio Palermo and provincial secretary of the Commission albo odontoiatri (Cao) of the Order of the Medici: “Dentisti d’August is an initiative to protect the health of the community, citizens and tourists who will visit Palermo in August, where by choice or necessity they are faced with dental needs in a month in which it is difficult to find an open dental structure: we found a strong sensitivity in the institutions and an important partnership in the Order of Pharmacists of Palermo and in Federalberghi Palermo. We know that the first front to be addressed in cases of urgency, especially after Covid, is the pharmacy: pharmacists can direct patients to the nearest open structure and the same applies to hotels, the first contact point for tourists who are away from home and need to ask for information or help in case of aesthetic or functional needs. The campaign appears on August 1, and will last for the whole month: it will be possible to find in pharmacies and inn and flyer accommodation facilities containing the Qr Code that will allow to see in real time what is the nearest dentist able to respond to the patient’s need”.
The president of the Order of Doctors of Palermo Toti Amato points out that “having toothache in the summer months is a problem, doctors are not found and dentists are not even: this initiative goes to the health of citizens. Someone will surely have heard a toothache on the evening of August 14: this way it can also stem”.
Emanuele Siagura, advisor to the Order of Pharmacists of Palermo, defines the initiative “loud and arguta, because in emergency cases there are really difficulties and this is a way to foster access to care, not only to the population but also to all those tourists who today populate the city and turn daily to pharmacies to face their difficulties”.
The president of Federalberghi Palermo Rosa Di Stefano also welcomes the project: “We could not be a partner of a way to take care of the tourist who goes outside the classic reception fees: it means taking care of the customer and communicating a service that is provided in total privacy, with an excellent coverage of health care; all in a month like August, where there are similar problems and this is a quite common problem. We will give a contribution in terms of internal communication: in all accommodation facilities of the city there will be informative material that will be diffused both at the time of check-in and in the phase of online booking: we are present in this new way to tell the tourism of our city taking care of its guests”.
