VATICAN CITY (ITALPRESS) – “The Gospel of today’s liturgy invites us to share the praise that Jesus elevates to the Father, ‘Lord of Heaven and Earth’. The Son of God, made man, manifests his love by involving every creature in this thanksgiving.” Thus Pope Leo XIV at the Angelus in St. Peter’s Square.
“The simplicity of such a spontaneous and joyful gesture – he emphasizes – corresponds to the style of God, who loves to reveal himself ‘to the little’, while he remains hidden ‘to the wise and the learned’. For they are so full of their own ideas that do not recognize the presence of Christ, the Messiah who visits his people. Human wisdom then becomes arrogance and doctrine degrades in pride. The true wisdom of God is revealed instead in the humility of the flesh and his teaching is addressed to those who are more struggling: “Come to me, you all who are tired and oppressed,” says the Lord. To go to Jesus means to correspond to his love and to share his life to the cross, as He himself explained to us: If anyone wants to come after me, deny himself, take his cross and follow me. Precisely the gift of self for love is the ‘game’ of Jesus, that is the synthesis of his teaching, the heart of his wisdom, burning with charity towards all.” “Brothers and sisters – adds the Pope – how can the weight of the cross be ‘light’ and ‘sweet’? For one reason: for the Lord brings him first and with all of us, without ever leaving us alone in what falls down. As an authentic master, Jesus takes charge of humanity hurt by evil, to take care of it. The wisdom which He gives us is then an announcement of salvation and his yoke lifts us from every fall. In the sequela of Christ, our journey is not a deadly ascetic: it is a school of freedom, which takes seriously the drama of history and always illuminates its sense, especially in the darkest moments. Indeed, only in the cross of Jesus evil is redeemed: only in his passion our mortal fatigue finds comfort and redemption. In slavery, Christ is liberation. Under the scourge of war, Christ is hope. In the hour of sin, Christ is forgiveness. This is true wisdom, that is the way we want to go together, united as disciples in his name. Jesus teaches us as a Son, becoming our brother: with the power of the Holy Spirit, He himself manifests to the Church the truth of God and man, because “no one knows the Father except the Son and the one to whom the Son will want to reveal it”.
“Dearly, as we thank the Lord for his confidence full of love, we ask the intercession of Mary, Queen of Peace, for the good of the Church and of the whole world”, the Pontiff concludes, addressing a greeting “with affection” to all present in St. Peter’s Square.
