Europe in the heat, for the Omni 1300 deaths in a week linked to record temperatures

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Europe is the continent that heats faster on Earth, warming up to twice the global average. At this moment 150 million people live under extreme heat, hundreds are dead, schools are closed, electricity networks are collapsed. Driven by climate change and global warming, the phenomenon of heat wave occurs almost every year. We were warned. More than 1300 excess deaths have been recorded since 21 June due to high temperatures in Europe. Heat stress is often called the “silent killer” and houses, workplaces and European schools have not been built for these temperatures.” He wrote it on X Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the WHO.

“The WHO is working with its Member States and partners to address the health threats posed by extreme heat focusing on the preparation, prevention and stronger responses of the health system. In particular, we are encouraging European countries to implement health action plans in relation to heat, within the wider agenda to protect health from climate change,” he added.
