In May the extra EU export grew by 6.3% annually

ROMA ITALPRESS) – In May 2026 export grows on an annual basis of 6.3% (was +12,0% to April 2026). Istat detects it. The tendential growth of exports to non-EU27 markets is due to the increase in energy sales (+125.3%), intermediate goods (+22.9%) and instrumental goods (+4.8%); annual export of durable consumer goods (-21.4%) and non-durable (-5.4%).

The import, continued Istat, “records a tendential increase of 15.4%, which mainly contributes the greater purchases of energy (+63.6%)”; in decrease, on an annual basis, imports of non-durable consumer goods (-21.4%). In May 2026 the trade surplus with the non-EU27 countries is equal to +3,843 million euros (+5,387 million in the same month of 2025). The energy deficit (-5.748 million) is higher than a year earlier (-3.704 million). The advance in the interchange of non-energy products stood at +9.591 million, from +9.091 million May 2025.

In May 2026, marked increases on an annual basis of exports to Switzerland (+57.9%), China (+24.1%) and MERCOSUR countries (+21.3%). They decrease sales to Turkey (-23.0%), the United States (-3.6%) and the United Kingdom (-3.5%). Imports from OPEC countries (+68.3%) and the United States (+26.1%) recorded a strong trend growth; also increased purchases from MERCOSUR countries (+22.3%) and Switzerland (+9.0%). On the other hand, imports from China are reduced (-5.2%).
