I trust that your pilgrimage will express a strong impetus among all men and women of good will to recover the sense of community, meeting and mutual support. Spain, like Italy and the whole of Europe, is confronted today with great challenges. On the one hand, it remains strong and widely shared the call to preserve the significant spiritual, historical and cultural heritage, which will be, among other things, valued, during your journey, in celebrations for the hundred years after the death of Antoni Gaudí. On the other hand, the need to continue to ensure, even in the future, conditions of stability, security and progress, with increasing difficulties and tumultuous technological, social and economic changes. The attention that Ella will address to young people and the most vulnerable, such as the needy, migrants, prisoners, will reiterate the importance of inclusion, to ensure that human dignity and the entire Mediterranean region are protected to its vocation as a place of dialogue, exchange and solidarity.
