In the presence of over 1,100 guests, the Ambassador of Italy in the United States, Marco Peronaci, hosted last night in Washington the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic.
A reception of science, technology and the best of Made in Italy, which offered the opportunity to experience the immersive experience in virtual reality organized in collaboration with the National Institute of Nuclear Physics. It allowed visitors to enter into a particle physics experiment and observe in person what happens when the fundamental particles of the universe collide at speeds close to that of light.
Important Italian brands have exhibited their excellences focusing on innovation and technology: Lamborghini exhibited three cars, in the colours of the Italian flag, and Stellantis presented a Fiat 500 and two “Topolino”, also in the tricolor. Ducati and Aprilia were present with two race bikes, while Leonardo offered guests the experience of a helicopter and jet flight simulators. Also present Beretta, with a special commemorative exhibition of the 500 years of the Brescian company.
Particularly appreciated was the space dedicated to the special spacesuit developed by Axiom Space in collaboration with Prada, which will be worn by the astronauts of NASA’s historic Artemis IV mission, the one that will bring man back to the Moon. As well as the Olympic torchlights of the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, which also after months of the closing ceremony continue to arouse great interest in the American audience.
There was no lack of space dedicated to the great Italian musical tradition. After the national anthems, soprano Angela Knight and tenor Tony Torchia, two important names of the Washington National Opera, performed two famous arias by Giacomo Puccini, “When me’n vo” and “No Sleep”.
Rich in products of excellence of Italian food and wine was the refreshment. The guests brought home a memory of the celebrations of the National Holiday thanks to snapshots made with customizable backgrounds, all on the theme with the program of the evening.
