In the presence of over 1,100 guests, the Ambassador of Italy in the United States, Marco Peronaci, hosted last night in Washington the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, which coincides with the important anniversary of the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence.
After introducing the video message of greeting to the compatriots of the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, On. Antonio Tajani, the Ambassador recalled the words of the President of the Republic about the particular meaning represented by the eighty years of the Republic, underlining the decisive contribution for the outcome of the referendum on 2 June 1946 given by women. In this regard, the photographic exhibition “Women of the Republic” by the ANSSA was valorised and sponsored by the MAECI.
In recalling the important results achieved in recent months in the bilateral relationship between Rome and Washington, Peronaci stressed that “Italy and the United States are implementing the Joint Declaration signed by the President of the Meloni Council and President Trump in 2025, working on concrete collaborative routes, from energy to advanced technologies, from spatial exploration to scientific cooperation”.
Citing the extraordinary results of Italian exports to the United States – which reached in 2025 the record figure of 70 billion euros – the Ambassador referred to the Miami entrepreneurial and scientific Forum on 22 June as a new testimony of the priority attributed by Italy to the partnership with the United States under the economic, scientific and cultural profiles.
Among the guests who took part in the celebrations in the Embassy, the Supreme Court judge Samuel Alito, Secretary of Interior Doug Burgum, Deputy Secretary of State Michael Rigas and numerous other high-level representatives of the Administration, confirming the priority it attaches to the relations with Italy. Of great importance and significance was also the participation of the leadership of the Italian-American caucus of the American Congress.
In addition to leading members of the Italian community, including members of the Comites, participated in the celebrations in Washington, members of the diplomatic corps, members of the business, culture and journalism world.
