Ebola, in Italy obligation to declaration for travellers from Congo and Uganda

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The Ordinance of the Minister of Health of 29 May 2026 published in the Official Journal, adopted in relation to the outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda caused by the Bundibugyo virus (BVD), linked to Ebolavirus, for which the World Health Organization declared an emergency of international public health (PHEIC).

The measure introduces surveillance measures for travellers coming directly or indirectly from the affected areas or who have been there in the 21 days prior to entry into Italy. In these cases the obligation, within 24 hours of arrival, to fill in and pass a declaration to the ASL Prevention Department of residence or domicile. The order also has that Regions, air and sea carriers, airport managers and port authorities ensure the maximum dissemination of the information and provide the passengers with the necessary form before the entry into the country. The measures are accompanied by a circular technique that defines the criteria for risk assessment and indications for prevention. The measure entered into force on 29 May 2026 and will remain valid for 120 days.
