PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – On Sunday, May 24th, the inaugural ceremony at the Politeama Garibaldi in Palermo, the 4th National Congress of the Italian Hospitallers Association, the main annual appointment of Italian hospital surgery. Congress will take place from 25 to 27 May at the Saracen Sands Hotel & Congress Centre in Isola delle Femmine.
The title chosen for the 2026 edition, “Surgery between art and technology. Because to believe it again,” points to the heart of comparison: the relationship between surgical gesture, clinical judgment, technological innovation, training, professional responsibility and quality of care.
For four days hospital surgeons, specializations, speakers, scientific societies, institutions and representatives of the health world will discuss the main topics that today cross the profession: robotic surgery, artificial intelligence, increased reality, simulation, digital operating rooms, surgical networks, volumes, outcomes, professional responsibility, urgency, oncology, training and safety of care paths.
The inaugural ceremony includes the speeches of the presidents of the Congress Antonello Mirabella and Pierenrico Marchesa, Honorary President Vincenzo Mandalà and the official opening of the national president ACOI Vincenzo Bottino.
The appointment of Palermo represents a significant step for the Italian surgical community, called to discuss its future in a phase of strong transformation of health systems, marked by new technologies, increasing complexity of patients, shortage of professionals and need to make more homogeneous and measurable pathways.
Ample space will be dedicated to technological innovation, the training of young surgeons, emergency surgery, surgical networks and the relationship between Hub and Spoke, volumes, outcomes and skills. The choice of Palermo and Sicily as a congress center also recalls the theme of health in the complex territories: proximity of care, continuity of the paths and ability of the networks to accompany the patient towards the most appropriate center.
