ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “It is an honor for me as well as a pleasure to have welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Rome, on a day that I do not consider to be a historical reductive for relations between our two nations. My friend Narendra Modi has been leading India uninterruptedly since 2014, but today’s is his first bilateral mission in Italy. Today we not only fill this void, but together we decide to relaunch. Today we raise our relationship at the special strategic partnership level, the highest ever achieved in relations between our two nations.” Thus the president of the council Giorgia Meloni during the press conference jointly with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “We can therefore say, without fear of denial, that now Italy and India are closer than ever,” he added.
“We aim to increase our already solid trade interchange up to 20 billion from current 14 in the next three years. It is a very ambitious goal, but also taking advantage of the potential of the free trade agreement signed between the European Union and India,” he added. “This is a goal to reach because our economic and productive ecosystems are highly complementary – Meloni explained – Digital infrastructures, the innovative Indian dynamism combine very well with the Italian industrial force, manufacturing excellence and the ability to integrate technology. It is an integration that opens business opportunities, investments, quality employment and industrial collaboration.”.
“The strength of relations between our two nations is not only measured in the depth of political relations or in economic numbers, but also in the ability to approach our peoples creating opportunities for mutual knowledge. For this reason we decided to launch in 2027 the year of culture and tourism Italy-India, a unique opportunity to make our millenary cultures dialogue and to make them more and more connected”, said the premier.
With Prime Minister Modi “we have also talked about many of the complex scenarios that our time confronts us, starting from Ukraine and our commitment to arrive at a just and lasting peace. We have been confronted with the Iranian crisis, with the common hope that the peace negotiations can go ahead and find a positive solution in a context that we clearly know to be very precarious. We both work to restore freedom of navigation: we are two nations that must not remember how much freedom of navigation is important to them,” he said about Iran.
Between Italy and India “I remember the common work to ensure that the development of artificial intelligence is responsible and remains focused on the person. We are convinced that innovation, regulation and security must walk hand in hand to allow artificial intelligence to release its potential in positive response to the needs of citizens and remaining at the service of man.”.
“In the last three years I had the opportunity to meet President Meloni several times. This is proof of the close collaboration and harmony between India and Italy. Under his capable leadership, our relations have gained new impetus. There is a new trust.” So Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, always at the joint press conference.
“Technology and innovation are the engine of our partnership. In fields such as artificial intelligence, quantum calculation, space and nuclear energy in the civil sector there are unlimited possibilities of collaboration among us,” he said. “As maritime powers, close collaboration in the context of connectivity between Italy and India is something natural. We talked about the possibility of bringing our partnership to third countries and going in this direction we agreed to work on concrete projects in Africa,” he added.
“With Italy we were constantly in touch with the tensions in Ukraine and in western Asia. India’s position is clear: all issues must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy,” said Modi.
