“The prescriptions” by Carlo Verdone and director Giovanni Veronesi at the Gemini for the World Day of Arteriosa hypertension

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – They can also come from unexpected sources the right words to talk about hypertension. That you need to find because of the theme you talk so much, until you become almost a background noise, to which no one really pays more attention. But when to relaunch the theme ‘hypertension’ are two big calibers of Carlo Verdone and Giovanni Veronesi, here is that attention returns to be magically catalyzed.

“The invitation for all – says Verdone – is to regularly measure pressure, most of all if at home there is an inheritance, if there are family with hypertension. ” The meeting with Carlo Verdone and Giovanni Veronesi took place this morning at the Policlinico Gemelli, as part of the event “Let’s manage hypertension together”, on the occasion of the celebrations for the international day of hypertension which was celebrated last May 17 (which will continue throughout the day with the stations set up for counselling on lifestyle and pressure measurement).

And it was a bathroom of crowds and laughter. The best vehicle perhaps to get past and thoroughly penetrate some ‘doc’ health messages, proposed by Gemelli experts. From 9.30 p.m., the Polyclinic Hall has become an unusual stage where health meets culture. Honorable guests were the well-known actor and director Carlo Verdone and director Giovanni Veronesi, who dialogued in the panel “When health goes on stage: emotions, stories and awareness”. Moderated by journalist Andrea Ruggieri, the two exceptional testimonials stressed the value of communication in the promotion of correct lifestyles.

The meeting, was introduced by the Director General of the University Polyclinic Foundation A. Gemelli IRCCS, Daniele Piacentini, the Scientific Director Antonio Gasbarrini and Professor Francesco Franceschi, Director of UOC Medicine and University Polyclinic Emergency A. Gemelli IRCCS, Ordinary of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. Organizer of the event Andrea Flex, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, Director UOC Internal Cardiovascular Medicine and Head of the Hypertension Center of the Gemelli Polyclinic, afferent to the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences directed by Professor Massimo Massetti.

“The event is an important occasion for comparison between doctors,” said Andrea Flex, “exponents of culture and citizens to promote greater awareness”. In the scientific session “Units Against Hypertension”, specialists of different disciplines – from cardiology to neurology, from nephrology to food science – offered a 360-degree view of hypertension, one of the main causes of cerebrovascular diseases worldwide.

“In the world of show everyone has high pressure,” Verdone says, addressed to Giovanni Veronesi, adds, among the laughter of the public: “You know that well, don’t you? I gave you a sartanic, because you had a cough with ACE inhibitors and I also added a piece of metoprolol to keep your heart safe.”.

Verdone, two honorary degrees cause in medicine and pharmacology, is often stopped to be a hypochondriac. “No, it comes from the movie ‘Maledetto the day I met you’ where I played the part of a hypochondriac. I am not a doctor but I have become good at intuiting some things; then I appase you; in the evening I study on my own the acts of the congresses, the best thing. I’ve found out a lot here. Because yes, it is true, there is Google, but if you want to see the medicine that advances, the serious things, you must read the acts of congresses.”.

However, it seems to be forgotten in part the friend and colleague Giovanni Veronesi. “When we went to Russia to shoot the movie ‘Italians’, in Russia, you brought a suitcase of medicines, because there the names of the medicines are different!”.

And, returning to the theme of World Day of Hypertension, here is another ‘educative’ anecdote of Verdone. “I go to the pharmacy three times a week to control my pressure – reveals the great actor and director -. One day though I was afraid because the pharmacist found me 185/110. Then, after a quarter of an hour it started to lower, also because they measured it with the manual one. I’m safer when there’s the pump… Basically, however, my pharmacist friend who, even when he finds high pressure, always does my thumb up. And it is good, because the first measurement is affected by the ‘white shirt’. But he reassures me, he does his thumb up, he puts it back on me, and that goes down to 135′′′.

And, among other councils of the Roman actor, there is that of never underestimate the headache. “Many headaches underestimate them – says Verdone – and you take all the pills to remove pain. But instead, if these headaches are deep and somewhat strange, they absolutely need a pressure control, which many do not do.”.

“If she decides to change work – she’s joking Daniele Piacentini – here a place she always has it, even if she wants to come to film”.

At the end of the meeting, the continuation of the day, until 18.30, will take place in the corridor in front of the Hall of the Polyclinic, where several practical positions have been set up: participants can learn the correct methods of measuring pressure, receive advice on physical activity, nutrition and lifestyles useful to protect cardiovascular health.
