Italy-Emirati, Urso meets Minister Al Marri and special envoy Jafar

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – The Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, met in Milan, on the margin of Investopia Europe 2026, the Minister of Economy and Tourism of the United Arab Emirates, Abdulla bin Touk Al Marri, and the Special Envoy for Enterprises and Filantropia, Badr Jafar.

At the centre of the two bilateral comparisons, the strengthening of the strategic industrial partnership between Italy and the United Arab Emirates, with particular attention to reciprocal investments in high technology sectors, from artificial intelligence to data centers, from digital to Space, sectors in which Italy is recording an increasing capacity of attraction of foreign capital.

“The United Arab Emirates are a strategic partner for Italy and are even more at this stage of deep geopolitical and economic transformations,” Minister Urso said.

“Even more in this phase marked by geopolitical tensions and new economic wars, it is time to strengthen a partnership based on investments, innovation and advanced technologies, and to give a clear political signal also on the European level: a free trade agreement between the European Union, the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf area would today be an important step for growth, economic security and common stability.”.

During meetings with Minister Al Marri and the Special Envoy Jafar, the centrality of the United Arab Emirates was confirmed as a strategic partner of Italy in the Gulf and as a priority interlocutor for building new industrial, technological and financial sectors between Europe, the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

Particular attention has been paid to the implementation of the path indicated by the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, and by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed in the bilateral summit of Italy-AU last February in Rome, starting from the objective of 40 billion dollars of investments in Italy in the strategic sectors of the national economy. In this context, the need to strengthen the operational comparison to accelerate the projects already identified, encourage new investments and remove any obstacles to their full implementation was shared.

Ample space has also been dedicated to cooperation in the field of space and in advanced technologies, compared to which Italy and Emirates have already started joint initiatives.

Among the themes addressed, also the possibility to develop new joint projects in support of Africa, starting from the AI Hub for sustainable development and enhancing the potential of the Space Centre “Luigi Broglio” of ASI in Malindi, Kenya, under the Mattei Plan.
