I believe that in order to continue to have a sustainable national health system like ours, in order to offer all citizens, even to the most fragile, to the weakest and to those who have more economic difficulties, the new finds of biomedical research, we must have a system in balance. Therefore the mission is clear: having in the future less Italian suffering from pathologies, those that can be controlled and prevented precisely with prevention. On this there is an important design; in the last budgetary law for the first time ad hoc funding has been made and together with the Regions we want to work for this. We want to ensure that the National Health Service evolved, it is closer to citizens, but respecting the basics on which it was founded 47 years ago: the gratuitousness of care, access to care, universalism and attention to the weakest.” So the Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, on the occasion of the meeting “Walks of care. “Unfortunately there are many factors why today obesity in Italy affects more in some regions than in others. Above all, it affects people who have a lower level of education and people who have less economic capacity – adds – . Of course, we must act on this; it is also a cultural problem: to make everyone understand how important it is to prevent so many diseases related to obesity. I think of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and also some forms of cancer.”.
