Italy hosts a meeting of the Global Partnership for Education

The Permanent Representation of Italy to the UN in New York hosted, on 25 March, a meeting of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), a global fund incardinated in the World Bank and a major international partnership dedicated to access to education in developing countries. The meeting is part of Italy’s initiatives to promote the refinancing of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), represented at the meeting by the Delegate Director Laura Frigenti.

In his opening speech, the Permanent Representative Giorgio Marrapodi highlighted Italy’s strong commitment to promoting affordable and quality education, a priority of foreign policy, the model of Italian development cooperation and one of the main action leaders of the Mattei Plan. Education, training and acquisition of skills, the Ambassador observed, are among the key factors to stimulate innovation, strengthen social inclusion and “do not leave anyone behind”, as the motto of Agenda 2030 states.

Italy has officially announced its intention to co-organise the GPE refinancing campaign for the period 2026-2030 on the occasion of an event at the margins of the United Nations General Assembly on 24 September 2025, attended by the Deputy Foreign Minister and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, the Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima and the President of the GPE (and former President of Tanzania).
