Telling Italian innovation as a path, and not just as a result. It is the idea behind The Perfect Pitch, the television series dedicated to Italian startups presented today at the headquarters of Confindustria and produced by IlNewyorkese, Luckyhorn Entertainment and N41 Studios. Available on Mediaset Infinity, the first season follows three startups selected by RetImpresa in the ROCK competition for open innovation, dedicated to sustainable mobility.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Italian Consulate in Detroit, Novac, Arlix and Limitless were able to directly confront Midwest investors and economic operators. The series focuses not only on the technological value of the projects, but also on the ability of companies to tell and measure themselves with the American market, alternating entertainment, training moments and challenges designed to test teams on the field.
The Roman presentation, moderated by Mattia Iovane, opened an afternoon of comparison on the new models of promotion of startups and Made in Italy, with the interventions, among others, by Fabrizio Landi, president of RetImpresa, and Stefano Cuzzilla, president of 4.Manager.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, who called The Perfect Pitch “an innovative way to tell the Italian business system and their ability to grow and internationalize”, explaining how the Farnesina decided to support the project. “It is an initiative that demonstrates how collaboration between public and private can become a real mechanism of selection, launch and internationalization of startups”, he added, underlining also the role of Confindustria and RetImpresa, “central in supporting innovation, enhancing networks, skills and industrial vision”.
During the presentation was also attended by Allegra Baistrocchi, already Consul d’Italia in Detroit and today vicaria dell’Office for the promotion of Italian excellence of MAECI, who told the birth of the project and the work done in the United States to promote an image of Italy linked to innovation and enterprise: “It’s not every day, for us diplomats, to be part of a docuserie. In fact, the idea started as a documentary, then, thanks to the meeting with President Landi, we said that it could not be limited to an hour: it was necessary to tell more”.
In his intervention he claimed the deepest sense of diplomatic work: “Promoting Italianity abroad is the most beautiful part of my work. Making visas and passports is not always so fascinating, but being able to tell our companies, our know-how and our young people fills all of us with pride”, and it is part of the experience gained in Detroit, where “In four years we organized 160 events with the participation of about 120,000 people. For a small consulate, with limited resources, it was a huge effort”.
A work that, he emphasized, had a precise objective: «In the United States it is very celebrated traditional Italy: archaeology, architecture, food, artistic beauty. Much less known is Italian innovation”. And that’s exactly the point that The Perfect Pitch tries to highlight: “The path I have seen in these years in Detroit, and I hope it also arrives to the public at home, is the discovery of an Italy that excels in all sectors. There is no area where Italy is not competitive: it must be seen”.
For Fabrizio Landi, President of RetImpresa, who is also present at today’s discussion in Confindustia, “The Perfect Pitch, through the television story of the startups of sustainable mobility protagonists of Rock, experiences a different language to tell innovation. Today, if we really want to talk to those who innovate and young people – he says -, we must have the courage to use new models of communication”.
Fabrizio Landi’s idea is also embraced by Fausto Bianchi, President of Piccola Industria Confindustria: “The series shows in a concrete way how important innovation, networking and opening to international markets for the growth of small businesses. And it is no coincidence that the journey arrives to Detroit, one of the world symbols of manufacturing and industrial transformation”.
In closing, Davide Ippolito, founder of the New York and producer of the series, also spoke about the origin of the project: “The Perfect Pitch was born two years ago and represents something I really understood only by living abroad: in order to realize the strength of Italy, sometimes you have to go away”. An experience that, he explained, allows to understand “not only the quality of our enterprises, but also the very high level of Italian diplomatic service abroad, which represents a strategic asset for the country”.
Hippolytus then clarified how the series is not thought of as an end to itself: “Beyond the television product, the opportunities offered to startups were concrete, from comparison with local investors to direct dialogue with American institutions”. A path that, in the vision of producers, aims to transform the story of innovation into a useful tool also for those who look.
