Webuild, 660 mln contract for the new line 10 of the Naples Metro

MILANO (ITALPRESS) – Webuild, in consortium, has won a contract of approximately 660 million euros of total value for the realization of a first section of the Lotto 1 of the new Line 10 of the metro of Naples. The lot is part of a larger project that provides an estimated total investment of more than € 3.1 billion, destined to revolutionize mobility in the north-eastern part of the city. Line 10 will be driverless and will allow more than 400,000 citizens to enjoy a quick and sustainable connection with the city centre and the high-speed rail network.
“With this new award Webuild, leading the consortium that will realize the Lotto 1 of Line 10 – reads in a note -, strengthens its role in the development of strategic infrastructures of South Italy where it is carrying out 19 projects for a total value awarded of more than 15 billion euros, which give employment to 8,700 people, between direct and third parties (given June 30, 2025), with 7,600 direct suppliers involved from start work”.
“With more than 890 km of metros built around the world, Webuild is a global leader in complex infrastructures for urban mobility – the group notes – continue. In Italy, the Group continues to transform the face of the great cities: in Naples there are 21 stations realized or in progress, including some of the iconic “Stazione dell’Arte”, while in Milan it has built the M4 that allows to connect in just 12 minutes the center to the airport of Linate.
In Rome, the Colosseum/Fori Imperiali and Porta Metronia on Line C were recently inaugurated: the first driverless route of the Capital that, thanks to the recovery of archaeological finds emerged during the excavations, combines infrastructure innovation and valorization of the cultural heritage”.
The maxi-project of Line 10 of the metro of Naples, realized in synergy between the Municipality of Naples and Campania Region (with EAV as an actuator subject), is one of the most strategic works for the sustainable mobility of the Mezzogiorno and will allow to connect the center of the city with the AV station Naples-Afragola, already realized from the Webuild Group, destined to become strategic hub for the connection between North and South Italy and between the regional and national transport system.
Lotto 1 covers the executive design and construction of the civil works of Line 10 that will be executed by stages. The contract provides for approximately 660 million euros, already awarded, for the realization of a first section of 6.5 km (Fase 1A) and the exclusive right to realize additional works, waiting for financing, up to a total value of beyond 3.7 billion for the future completion of the line. For the realization of the work of Phase 1A it is estimated will be created up to 700 jobs, between direct staff and third parties, that will reach up to 1,500 with the future completion of the work. The consortium that won the works is composed, besides Webuild, by Eteria Consorzio Stabile, Costruire, ICM and M.N. Metro of Naples.
The route of Line 10, a total of about 14 km from the AV Napoli-Afragola Station to the Principe Umberto Station, will be built almost entirely underground, with tunnels partially excavated by traditional method and partly with the use of TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine). Within the scope of the contract, the works of Phase 1A will cross the municipalities of Afragola, Casoria, Casavatore and Naples, with 7 stations of which 3 to be completed (Di Vittorio, Casoria Centro, Afragola) and 4 to be realized in this first phase only partially (Casavatore San Pietro, Casoria Casavatore, Casoria Afragola Garibaldi). In the completion of the line is instead the realization of additional 7,3 km and 5 stations, the finalization of the 4 stations started in Phase 1A and other connected works including the construction of a new inter parking lotexchange at the service of AV Napoli-Afragola station.
The stations – 12 in all for the entire maxi-project – will be realized by reducing the impact of the work on the urban fabric and the works will reach a depth of up to 45 meters, with galleries with an internal diameter of 8.6 meters. Line 10, which will serve several densely populated municipalities of the Neapolitan hinterland and will give centrality to neighborhoods not served today by the metro network, will become a new fundamental part of the public transport system city thanks to new junctions Lines 1, 2 and 11 of the Naples Metro and with the Circumvesuviana Railway.
The project consolidates the role of Webuild in the transformation of mobility in Campania, where the Group has been present since the 1980s with symbolic works already realized as the AV Napoli-Afragola station. Currently Webuild is engaged on four batches of the AV/AC Line Naples-Bari and on the 1 A lot of the AV/AC Line Salerno-Reggio Calabria, fundamental taxes for the future of sustainable mobility in the Mezzogiorno and integral part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor of the TEN-T network for the connection of the South of the peninsula with North Italy and Europe.
