ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In 2024, GDP in volume (+0.7% at national level) increased by 1% in the North-West, by 8% in the Center, by 0.7% in the Mezzogiorno and by 0.1% in the North-East. The Northwest maintains the first place in the pro-capite GDP ranking, with a value in nominal terms of 46,1 thousand euros, while in the Mezzogiorno the level is considerably lower than 25 thousand euros. In 2024 the disposable income of households per inhabitant of the Mezzogiorno (17,8 thousand euros) is confirmed the lowest of the country, its value is just under 70% of that of the Center-North (25,9 thousand euros). This is what emerges from the Istat report on territorial economic accounts for 2024.
In 2024 GDP at national level increased by 0.7% compared to the previous year. The Northwest has recorded the most significant growth (+1%), supported by the positive trend of the sector of financial, real estate and professional services (+3.9%) and commerce, public exercises, transport and communications (+1.3%). Industry showed a slight decline (-0.5%), while in the Other Services the contraction of added value was more marked (- 2.5%, compared with -0.9% at national level). In the Centre, GDP rose by 0.8%, slightly higher than the average national trend.
The growth has been sustained by the positive dynamics of value added in agriculture (+5.3%), financial, real estate and professional services (+1.6%), constructions (+1.5%) and industry (+1.2%). On the other hand, there is a decline of 0.4% in the added value of Commerce, public exercises, transport and communications. In the Mezzogiorno the GDP has recorded a growth of 0.7%, conditioned by the negative trend of the sectors of the Other services (-0.6%) and industry (-0.4%). On the other hand, the dynamics of value added in the construction sectors (+3.7%) and the financial, real estate and professional services (+2.3%). In the North-East, GDP was substantially stable (+0.1% compared to 2023), as a synthesis of value added tax in Trade and Other Services (respectively, -2% and -0.9%) and the increase recorded in Agriculture (+4.8%), Financial Services (+1.7%) and Construction (+1%).
In 2024 the GDP, measured both in volume and in value, resulted in all territorial divisions above 2019 levels. The larger increases were observed in the Mezzogiorno and in the Northwest, where the volume of 2024 exceeds that of 2019, respectively, 7.7% and 7.0%. In 2024, household final consumption increased by 0.7% at national level. The North-West has shown the growth more sustained (+0.9%), the increase in the Center has resulted in line with the national average, while slightly lower dynamics have been observed in the North-East and in the Mezzogiorno (+0.6% and +0.4%, respectively). In 2024 households’ disposable income grew in current values of 3% at national level.
The most significant increase was observed in the Mezzogiorno (+3.4% compared to 2023), the most contained in the Northeast (+2.7%). Substantially in line with the national average were the income dynamics available in the Northwest and in the Center (respectively, +2.9% and +3%). At regional level, GDP growth in higher volume was recorded in Sicily (+1.8%), followed by Sardinia (+1.3%), Lazio and Lombardy (+1.2% both), Valle d’Aosta/Vallée d’Aoste and Piemonte (+1.1% both) and Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Basilicata (+1%). In Abruzzo a trend of GDP in line with the national average (+0.7%), with a slightly more favourable dynamic in Umbria and Campania (+0.8%). GDP growth below the national average was found in the Autonomous Province of Trento, Tuscany (+0.5%, for both) and Emilia Romagna (+0.2%). The GDP was stable in the Marche region and in a slight decline in Veneto and Puglia (-0.1%).
The most marked GDP decline was recorded in Liguria (-1%) and Molise (-1.1%). With reference to the final consumption expenditure of households, the most significant increases were observed in Valle d’Aosta/Vallée d’Aoste (+1.5%), in the Autonomous Province of Trento (+1.1%); follow Lombardy, Molise, Piedmont and Liguria (+0.9%) and Tuscany (+0.8%). In line with the national variation of the final consumption of the families in volume are located Abruzzo, Lazio and Emilia-Romagna (+0.7%) and Marche (+0.6%). The most common dynamics were found in Basilicata, Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Calabria and Autonomous Province of Bolzano/Bozen (+0.5%), Sicily and Campania (+0.4%), Umbria (+0.3%), Sardinia (+0.2%) and Puglia (+0.1%).
