ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Understand contemporary China: is the goal of the China-Italy Forum of Media and Think Tank today in Rome, promoted by the European Regional Office of the Xinhua press agency with the editorial staff of Rome and with the support of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Italy, the Italpress Agency and the Institute of Chinese Law.

“The goal is to discuss ideas, share experiences, dialogue with different perspectives and open new areas of cooperation together,” explains Tian Fan, Director of the European Regional Office of the Xinhua Press Agency. “The media of the two countries have historically carried out a work of building bridges among peoples,” he recalls, stressing that “Xinhua will continue to present to Italy a lively China and the many facets”.

The director of Italpress, Gaspare Borsellino, recalls that, “for some years the press agency has been carrying out an articulated and ambitious path of internationalization that has resulted in the opening of new offices abroad and in the definition of over 20 collaboration agreements with international news agencies and television networks. In this context of increasing global protection, China is a market of absolute strategic importance in economic, cultural and informative terms,” he recalls, before the signing of the cooperation agreement between Xinhua and Italpress.

The agreement was born from the strategic collaboration of the Matches Group by Andrea Cicini. “I am sure that this collaboration – continues Borsellino – will generate reciprocal professional satisfaction and contribute to the growth of increasingly qualified, in-depth and quality information. Our interest in China, however, does not end with this agreement: from January 2026, Italpress will be present with its own desk in Beijing.”.

For Li Xiaoyong, In charge of interim affairs of the People’s Republic of China Embassy in Italy, “the world today is experiencing changes of epochal scope: the international scenario is increasingly complex. We are at a new crossroads and the direction taken will have a significant impact on the future of humanity.” For this “it is necessary to allow authentic information to overcome borders and consolidate mutual trust through frank and sincere exchanges. I am convinced that the Chinese and Italian media will continue to protect professional ethics and social responsibility to deepen dialogue and exchanges in order to expand reciprocal areas of cooperation.”.

The President of the Foreign Commission of the Chamber, Giulio Tremonti, focused on the comparison between Europe and Asia, which recalls the Gordian Node: “In the myth it is written that those who are able to dissolve the knot will have the domain of the world, come from East or come from West. In fact, I think the knot can dissolve it but together, not in opposition. The time has come to define neighbourhood spaces between our civilizations, respecting the differences that are proper to each other,” he points out. “We have the past and we will also have a future: today the hypothesis of the Global Legal Standard must be considered again and, even in these terms, relations between China and Italy can be consolidated.”.

Ambassador Zhang Lubiao, Permanent Representative of China to the UN, stresses that “though China and Italy are geographically distant, our people know each other and understand each other. In the agricultural sector, collaboration and friendship between China and Italy is based on solid foundations: trade between the two countries is developing more and more articulated. In the last year the total volume of trade between China and Italy was 1.81 billion dollars with an annual growth of 8.4%. It is a great result,” he recalls.

Finally, in the round table “Towards a new ecosystem of cooperation between media and think tank China-Italy”, Giovanni Tria, economist and already Minister of Economy and Finance, highlights “the importance of information to understand the global economy. China is one of the main players in the global economy and information must be at this moment particularly careful, able to channel even very precise analysis and information.”.
