Italgas at Enlit 2025 illustrates the Hyround project for decarbonization of gas networks

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Italgas participates in Enlit 2025, the main European event and the energy sector that deals with the energy transition, digitization and decarbonization that this year takes place in Bilbao. Italgas has brought its experience in the field of decarbonization of gas networks by illustrating the Hyround project, the production plant of green hydrogen recently entered into operation in Sardinia, the first in Italy connected directly to a city distribution network. The plant uses electricity generated by photovoltaics to power an electrolyzer capable of producing green hydrogen that is used for multiple uses.

Hydrogen produced by Hyround – said Valeria Vignolo, Head of Engineering and Investments of Italgas – is distributed in blending with natural gas through the Sestu gas distribution network (Cagliari), in increasing percentages with the target of 20%.

But not only. It is made available in pure form at a bus supply station for local public transport and, still in blending with natural gas, to a local dairy food industry that uses it to replace the current BTZ fuel oil, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of a traditional production strongly rooted in the territory.

During the day, Italgas and Bludigit, the Group’s IT Company, were also protagonists in other thematic hubs of Enlit, with interventions dedicated to the digital transformation of gas networks and to the evolution of the operating models of the sector. The themes of innovation applied to infrastructures have been deepened, with a focus on the evolution of networks towards intelligent systems capable of integrating data, advanced technologies and renewable gases, and artificial intelligence applied to remote management of yards and operational activities, through platforms that can improve safety, governance and control of the territory.
