House of Made in Italy opened its doors to “Tales of the Roots: Italian Flavors Beyond Borders”, the event organized in collaboration with the Columbus Citizens Foundation, the Consulate General of Italy in New York and Casa Artusi, on the occasion of the X Week of Italian Cuisine in the World. An evening that brought together institutions, Italian-American communities, professionals and fans of Italian gastronomic culture, transforming the historic townhouse of the Upper East Side into a place of cultural dialogue and shared memory.
The theme of the “histories of our roots” was the guiding thread of a path that told how Italian cuisine traveled, transformed and rooted overseas, becoming a recognised and recognizable heritage all over the world. The photographic exhibition presented during the evening offered a contemporary look on the recipes born from the communities of Italian emigrants between the end of the nineteenth and twentieth century. A path that tells how, far from the country of origin, Italians have been able to mix ingredients, traditions and memories to continue to feel Italian, giving life to dishes that combine North and South, past and present. The images highlight not simple adaptations, but the true essence of Italianity: a kitchen that has always been confronted, reinvents and multiplies its identity, transforming the local into a collective heritage.
The protagonist of the evening also the Italian domestic cuisine, brought on stage by the team of Casa Artusi, which has realized live one of the dishes symbol of the regional tradition: risotto with mushrooms. The cooking show offered the public a moment of authentic sharing, woven technique, story and memory. To complete the experience, a 100% Italian food & wine tasting, selected to represent the quality and biodiversity of Made in Italy.
The Consul General of Italy in New York, Fabrizio Di Michele, intervened at the evening, underlined the value of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World as an instrument of cultural and economic diplomacy, highlighting the central role of gastronomy in the narration of Italy and in the construction of bridges between the Italian community and the Italian American one.
With “Tales of the Roots”, House of Made in Italy confirms its vocation to tell Italian culture through experiences that combine products, people and stories. A celebration of gastronomic heritage as a living expression of Italian roots, able to renew and dialogue with the world without losing authenticity.
