Peripheries, Battilocchio emphasizes the importance of health services and Riccio di “Campus Salute” presents replicable prevention model

Successfully continue the hearings of the Periphery Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, chaired by Mr Alessandro Battilocchio, who today listened to Pasquale Riccio, president of “Campus Salute”. The association, active since 2010, stands out for the offer of free prevention and medical care routes in the peripheral areas of Italy and beyond the border, with a particular focus on health protection in the most vulnerable areas of the cities.

“Campus Salute”, founded on the initiative of Annamaria Colao, vice president of the Higher Council of Health and professor of Endocrinology at Federico II of Naples, has already realized over 150,000 free medical visits and provided more than 750,000 performances, operating in 10 Italian regions. Its activity focuses not only on ensuring free screening, but also on promoting a model of prevention culture that can be exported and adapted to international contexts, as demonstrated by experiences in Albania and New York.

During the hearing, Riccio highlighted how the main project, Campus3S, represents an example of best practices replicable everywhere. “Guaranteing quality health services is one of the fundamental pillars to create equal opportunities and improve the quality of life in the suburbs,” said the President, underlining the importance of the role of local associations and volunteers, often in civil service, who contribute decisively to the success of these initiatives.

President Riccio also highlighted the importance of public and private collaboration, as well as the active presence of volunteers and young people in civil service, who bring hope and positivity in complex contexts such as those of Scampia, one of the neighborhoods symbolizing the Italian suburbs.

At the end of the hearing, Battilocchio commented: “We have witnessed the effectiveness of the Scampia Campus Salute model, which is an example of how the commitment on the territory, especially in the most disadvantaged areas, can bring concrete results. The presence of initiatives like this is essential to build a more just and inclusive Italy, in which health is a guaranteed right to all.”.

The Commission’s attention to the periphery is therefore strengthened with these testimonies, which highlight the crucial role of health prevention services as instruments of social inclusion and sustainable development. The experience of “Campus Salute” is a concrete example of how innovation and solidarity can make a difference, offering a replicable model to improve the quality of life in the most disadvantaged areas of the country and beyond.
