Tourism, Santanchè and Valditara present the first national day of historical clothes

The Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè and the Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara presented the first National Day of Historical Dresses, institutionalized with Law 59/2025, taking part in a press conference that formalized an important step towards the valorisation of the Italian cultural and tourist heritage.

The event, held in Rome at the Museo delle Civiltà, highlighted November 11 – the date dedicated to the new anniversary – not so much as a mere celebration of the historical habit as well as in the terms of a true journey, marked by stories, traditions, craftsmanship and cultural identity, through Italy.

The normative text identifies in the Ministry of Tourism the pivotal agency for the implementation of the provisions in concrete reality, through specific structures, and its functional nucleus (Articles 3, 4, 5) establish the operational mechanisms of the Scientific Committee for Certification, the National Lists for the official census and the National Day for Promotion.

“The historical dress must not be seen as a simple museum repertoire, but as a living and dynamic identity code, which connects our ancient artisan traditions with the perspectives of the international market – said Minister Santanchè –. This day will therefore offer tourists around the world a special opportunity to know and appreciate the culture of historical clothes, as a distinctive element of Made in Italy and a strategic vector of tourist attraction. From now on – Santanchè added – November 11th is an additional invitation to explore the roots of our cultural identity and to discover the beauty that lies in the details of historical clothes, in whose fabrics we read a piece of the plot of our history. Today is a very important day that reminds us how in a world where from artificial intelligence to social everything becomes virtual, it is absolutely essential to remember where we come to understand and decide where we want to go, and historical clothes are the testimony of who we are and what our roots are. From now on, November 11 is a particularly significant time for Italian tourism, because it will give the opportunity to go to the small villages, in the inner areas, in the smaller islands, which are cradles, custodians, laboratories of our wonderful artisanal, manufacturing, artistic and identity heritage. And it is not just a matter of belonging: This initiative also highlights what Italians can do with their own hands, with wisdom and creativity that are full expression of Italian genius. The historical habit – the minister concluded – is our story that is worn, an investment on the future of the Nation, a symbol of pride and passion that unites us all within a rich, refined and colorful garden that is Italy”.

“It is a symbolic day because it brings together many beautiful things of our country, which is the country of beauty, a beauty that must be cultivated since our young people, in our schools, and there is no historical dress that is not an expression of beauty – said Minister Valditara –. In Italy, we have 60 superior institutions with 80 thousand young people working in fashion, and many of them are dedicated to the restoration and replication of the historical dress. To do so – the minister said – it takes creativity, and an industry that can work perfectly, but it also takes passion and sense of the community, sense of belonging and awareness of its identity. A day like this serves to rebuild and learn our past, to bring it to the knowledge of people, of those who come to visit Italy. No community – Valditara concluded – can have a great future if it is not aware of its past, if it has no solid roots.”.

The Minister for Tourism also recalled that, starting from 2026, the dicastery will stagnate 550 thousand euro annually to support local initiatives.

In addition, on November 11, the Rai will air an institutional spot and a special dedicated to Rai Play, Rai 5 and Rai Cultura.

Further initiatives include that through study paths and events, schools will play a fundamental role in conveying knowledge and love for this part of national culture, involving young people in the rediscovery of Italian manufacturing art.

At the conference, Senator Anna Maria Fallucchi, the first signatory of the law on demonstrations in historical clothes, also intervened.

The Museum of Civilization will host an exhibition dedicated to the historical clothes, representative of all the Regions, until Tuesday 11 November included, while on the whole Italian territory there will be local initiatives that will see the protagonists of the local communities, creating an atmosphere of celebration and celebration of our history.
