World Refugee Day, Mattarella “Asilo and fundamental human rights, serves global cooperation”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Every year millions of people are forced to abandon their lands, fleeing from armed conflicts, humanitarian crises, persecutions and violations of the most basic human rights. It is an alarming reality, a tendency that occurs cyclically, almost as an inevitable destiny, the result of tragic developments in relations between States and between peoples. History, the history of Europe and the international orders born in the second post-war period, testify that it is not irreversible drift but that, to them, it is possible to oppose the logic of reconciliation, the strength of peace. Our republican order, our Constitution, recognize the universal character of human rights and explicitly, for those persecuted by their opinions, the right of asylum, then assuming the theme of relief activities, responsible reception and protection of refugees and refugees, among their practices. On the occasion of the World Refugee Day I wish to express solidarity and closeness to women and men – many of their minors – who live this agonizing condition of fragility and vulnerability, sometimes exploited by unscrupulous criminal organizations or respect for the dignity of the person”. The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, declared this on the occasion of the World Refugee Day.

“The will of the States, as well as their ability to collaborate with each other and with the international institutions, is an ineligible prerequisite to address the structural causes of these phenomena and to implement effective solutions. The Italian Republic, recalling the high significance of today’s event, joins once again to the appeal of those who ask each member of the international community to refrain from irresponsible conduct, to promote the safeguard of every human being and to contribute to the realization of the universal ideal of solidarity among peoples,” concludes Mattarella.
