“Whoever works” to speed up and “to reach a just and lasting peace does a precious job: I think the American proposal should be read with this lens. Of course, the American plan is a basis for discussion in order to arrive at a just and lasting peace, we need a discussion that is what we are flying with our European partners, with NATO, with the Americans and with the Ukrainians,” he added. “In the American plane there are some points that surely need to be discussed: the question of the territories, the question of the financing for reconstruction, the question of the Ukrainian army”, but “there are also many points that I consider particularly positive, in the matter of security guarantees where the direct involvement of the United States in a security guarantee proposal was put black on white, which recalls an idea that at the beginning was Italian, i.e. security guarantee based on the model of article 5”, he emphasizes. “I think we can do a positive job, we are definitely all committed to reaching a proposal that can be as close as possible to what it takes to have an independent and sovereign Ukraine and to have security for Europe as well.”.
“It would be, for example, a good thing to be able to achieve at least one temporary ceasefire on the strategic infrastructures that the Russians continue to bomb completely indiscriminately,” he confirmed. “We are all demonstrating from the beginning our good will” while “the Russians have not taken a step forward, I think that even the Russians should give some concrete signal of wanting to actually arrive at peace.”.
