ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “I have not followed closely the visit of the President of the United States in China. But certainly our hope is that in the end something comes out that is a gain for all humanity and not only for one part, America or China, it serves a positive result, one of hope because hope is a greater thing than a result of political negotiations.” This was said by Monsignor Georg Gänswein, apostolic nuncio in the Baltic countries (Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia), interviewed tonight at the Tg2 Post.
In Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia “the war of Russia in Ukraine is certainly present. It is enough to pass into the city and we will see the Ukrainian flag everywhere and this not only here in Vilnius or Lithuania, but also in the other two Baltic countries. It means that the sign of solidarity is present. There are many refugees in the Baltic countries and the policy of the three countries strongly supports Ukraine – he added. Regarding the mood of people, it is clear that living in this situation for more than two years certainly creates a daily anguish. But we must not let ourselves be overcome by this anguish: we must look forward, and keep hope. Hope is what makes us live,” he added.
“The Church, the Pope himself and Vatican diplomacy work and will continue to work. There are so many invisible contacts and we try to use these contacts to help bring to a definitive solution, that is to peace”. “This also applies to people here in the Baltic States – he added – who trusts the Pope’s word and hopes that Vatican diplomacy can finally carry out a process towards definitive and lasting peace.”.
