“To Ukraine it is difficult to enter Europe. Peace must be defended”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – If it could change a definition would be the one with which we often talk about him, the “minister of War”. Because, Guido Crosetto, Brothers of Italy, his dicastery would call him “the ministry of defense of peace: thinking about his own security, how to defend himself, how to build a deterrence, is the only way to make us and our children live in peace. Too bad that some, for political and immediate interests or for simple demagogy, do not recognize it”. This is what he explains in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
“There are pieces of reasonable and serious opposition, but in both sides there are those who do not understand or do not understand – says Crosetto. But I go ahead and do my job, which is Minister of Defense. I understand that there are those who have objections and who have to manage a public opinion which is almost impossible to explain how important and necessary to have self-defense skills. But if all the countries of the world are strengthening them, can they all be mad? I am the Minister of Defense and I say what would be right to do to build a serious Defense, as it does – that I know – that of Health or School or any other section on what concerns it”.
With Giorgia Meloni, he adds, “there has never been a quarrel in years on these important issues for Italy, never. We have spoken, normally and freely, as we always do with all the allies, and we have defined a position. That I respect and understand. Then it is up to me to continue to say what it takes to ensure the safety of the Italians in a picture completely different from what was once. Everyone is aware that we have made multiannual commitments and may be that there are diversified stages, but what we will have to do is done.” For Crosetto, in the light of the serious international situation, it is necessary to proceed “by insisting on the need to find, stubbornly, spaces of diplomacy, dialogue, peace. On U.S. and Iran it seems to be close to a reopening of Hormuz after an agreement that only Trump’s signature is missing. And we Italians are ready immediately after parliamentary passages: the ships are already in the Gulf for a demining work that will be useful in the immediate release of a vital stretch of sea for international trade and traffic. But it will also be because those who go directly to carry out certain operations then enjoy the return of gratitude of those who receive help”. With regard to the case Romania “it is not the first time that the Russian drones tread. It is Putin’s nervousness for what is happening on the Ukrainian front: instead of being in a situation of advantage, it is now in difficulty for attacks on its own production of oil and gas, affected by Ukrainian attacks. It has been spoken, for years, of what would have resisted Ukraine to Russia, now instead it seems that Russia is in difficulty in the face of the growth of the capacities of Ukraine”. “Trump – he explains – realized that Russia did not want peace. The negotiation is difficult because Russia has changed its Constitution by incorporating the 4 Ukrainian regions disputed and has difficulties both to conquer them and to march back. Ukraine, rightly, is not available to grant its territories after years of resistance alone, with thousands and thousands of deaths. Because it is true that we have helped them, but to die they go there».
«Obviously – he adds, you have to arrive at a truce. Then, you have to prepare for peace. Russia could also stop for a while, but if you do not see that on the other side you are prepared, you might return to attack. More than the U.S. has said that they will no longer be able to take charge of Europe’s security alone. In fact, the NATO countries have committed themselves to raising, in short, up to 3.5% of GDP the resources for defence. I believe that, beyond the economic situation of the moment, I think it would be fair and prudent to replyeating. For us, not for them.” And to the question about the possible entry of Ukraine into the EU, he replied:
“Everyone knows, including the Germans, that it is very difficult. Not only politically, but because if Ukraine entered Europe, with its greatness and its economic system, there would immediately be a crisis in the agricultural sector very serious for many EU countries that no one, even the Germans, can afford”.
“I spoke to my colleagues also in Singapore and I had sent to all a reflection a month ago: it is increasingly urgent to organize a large European common defence system that goes beyond the current EU borders to 27, which includes Great Britain, Norway, the Balkans and also Ukraine – adds -. On the other hand, today they have clearly the most important and strong army. I don’t think a system like this could be opposed because it would guarantee everyone. Of course, at truce and peace reached. That would really be an effective deterrence system.”
And to the observation that the battle of Meloni, however, today in Europe does not seem to be that on safety, but it is that to obtain flexibility not only on the expenses of Defense but also on energy. The frugal countries, however, oppose themselves, comments: “Meloni is absolutely right and I think that the so-called “frugals” speak from above of their reserves of energy, oil, huge sovereign funds or an ideological approach to the budget. I believe that Europe needs to be asked even more than resources: we need to remove rules, laces, which make us slow, inefficient, elephants. There is too much bureaucracy and too little pragmatism. In America, not to mention to Singapore, from the decision to the realization of the projects spend 6 months, in Europe you are not enough to understand with which official you have to speak… This kills Europe as a political entity because those who work in the world compares it and feels it far, deaf, slow and enemy”. The battle that should be done in this last year of legislation, “is not defense. The first emergency is the acceleration of the production capacity of the country and makes it stronger the national productive part but also by activating energy and investments from abroad. We must make golden bridges to those who want to invest here, to those who move to Italy. And we have to get our brains back. In countries that work better the best researchers in circulation are paid – in Singapore all the state bureaucracy and even ministers – as the best of finance. It cannot be that young people, who guide innovation and new technologies, are expatrino because here are not the same opportunities for growth and gain. Italy would have an enormous attractive capacity, as a place to live well. We absolutely have to exploit it. And I don’t speak for my part, I say it for the country and for anyone there will be after.”
