The personal trainer, a “sentinel of well-being”

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – The way to live physical activity has changed in recent years: more and more the choice of training is dictated by a desire for general well-being, which includes aesthetic appearance, sports performance, but above all health and prevention. In Italy the number of people who carry out physical activity grows without pause: according to the latest Istat data, 37.5% of the Italian people practice sports. Among the most significant trends the rise of the average age of those who train, with adult men and women and in many cases also over 60 and over 70: a age group that more than ever imposes caution and requires preparation.

“In 2026 the personal trainer is no longer the figure that is based solely on the aesthetic aspect, but a sentinel of well-being: this happens thanks to the studies that the boys and girls who undertake this profession face continuously”, said Claudia Borelli, technical director of Issa Europe, interviewed by Marco Klinger for Medicina Top, TV format of the Italpress press agency.

Every person, says Borelli, is different from the other “and has specific requests: to customize, adapt and monitor constantly is fundamental, a personal trainer must be constantly listening to what a customer transmits to him with his body and his behavior; a good personal trainer will never repeat a training equal to the other person”. The role of the personal trainer, as a watchman, becomes even more important for the over 60 and 70 “in directing certain gestures, movements, breathing and loads depending on the subject in front: everything is to be evaluated and generated according to what the body transmits to us. It is said that physical activity is like a drug: both daily administration and the hygiene of the movement brings results, which exult from the aesthetic speech. Physical activity can help to annihilate everything that sedentary brings us, improving the everyday life of each subject: self-esteem and the search for beauty brings people closer to an activity, after which in addition to beautiful it turns out that this is very effective. I like to think that we are emotion: all we transmit and live is the result of hormonal disturbances that we can correct and modulate with training, so training with a professional can give positive results even from the point of view of psychophysical and social well-being”.

Another step, according to Borelli, concerns the need to “convince a sedentary person to undertake a training program: to encourage the emotional involvement of those who have never touched the gym with hand or did it without falling in love, the administration of very simple tests that recalculate everyday gestures allows us to highlight the amount of strength that develops and then go to train. You become a personal trainer also studying techniques to refine your sensitivity to approach these people, who often start with an aesthetic idea and glyssano about well-being: equally important is the ability to manage emotions, because as we do not have to deal with athletes but with people who live everyday life there can be emotional situations to download during training.”.

The president of Issa Europe concludes with a reflection that puts together present and past of physical activity: “The leap forward was remarkable, because we have inserted so much scientificity and much study, but at the same time we have returned to the past because culture marries with the ability to perform certain movements. The technology that can collect biometric information can be very useful as long as there is a professional who then knows how to interpret it, otherwise they leave the time they find: to put themselves in front of a monitor and to mimic what makes a model or an artificial reconstruction instead is far from the aspect of personalization”.
